For months and months I’ve been lusting after a Wixey digital angle guage to help me set my blade angles correctly.
Unfortunately, I had to put that off while my wife went to Myrtle Beach to care for her mother and father.

Then today I had a brain storm…. or maybe it was just gas, but I got to thinking about all the different apps available for I-Phone and Android phones.
Awhile back I had downloaded and installed one called “Bubble” which is a pretty accurate level and reads not only with a simulated bubble but also with digital readouts in two planes.

So, I calibrated it to my table top, (The room isn’t exactly level), and then set it against my table saw blade to 45°. Without looking at what the guide at the adjusting knob was reading, I cut several pieces of scrap. After checking them with a protractor, an old Stanley Combination square and a plastic drafting triangle I came to the conclusion that I was indeed, cutting true 45° bevels!
I’m not sure if this is the best possible use for my phone, but hey, at least I’m not texting and driving!

Here is the link for the app for Droid:

And here’s another one that might be better:

I almost bought an iPhone but bought a Droid instead. He annoyed me a bit at first but he makes a nice French Toast on home baked bread.

I have been toying with the same idea for my iphone. Thinking about making a little mdf holder so the bearing surface is larger. Just another one of the millions of thoughts running through my head.
