I recently inherited a 6” Steel City Jointer from a dear deceased friend. Having never used a jointer of any make or model, I want to make sure that after moving it several hundred miles in the back of my pickup, I have it set up properly and adjusted correctly…

1) I cannot locate ANY information on the unit as to its Model #?

2) The internet has been of very little help so far.

3) Lumberjock member GREG3G reviewed this jointer on 03/26/08 (https://www.lumberjocks.com/reviews/283) but does mention its model number.

4) I am unable to connect with GREG3G until I make the requisite number of posts, as a new member.

Is anyone able to help? I’ve provided a photo…

Hi Mike , you can go to Ytube and look up how to adjust a jointer you don’t need a manual it would be nice but a jointer is a infeed table and outfeed table I like to have my infeed table a 1/16 of inch below top dead center of the cutter head knife your outfeed table is level with cutter head knife I would also research how to use a jointer good luck.

The Steel City 6” machine closely resembles the look of the discontinued Grizzly G0604. The cutter guard is identical best I can tell, suggesting made by same mfg. Look at the Grizzly manual for setup information.

The KING KC-70FX sold in Canada is also very similar, and is still available.

Those 6” parallelogram jointers where clones of venerable Delta DJ-15. Delta made the DJ-15 in Taiwan before they stopped selling them. Be surprised if the DJ-15 manual and parts had any signigicant differences to your machine.

Found a reference to Steel City parallelogram 8” jointer as model 40-605, but my search chi is failing to find any PN for 6” version?

Hope this helps.

Here’s a very good instructional video on jointers. Pay particular attention how he sets the outfeed table height to the top center of the knives.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ob3V5SVrqAw&list=LL&index=18&t=132s
Good Luck

Pick up a copy of “Care and Repair of Shop Machines” by John White. Great book for setting up all major stationary tools, in a logical, well explained manner. Esp. good for aligning jointer tables. I recommend highly.
