I admit to being a Dinosaur. I do own a “smart phone” but alas it’s just a phone to me, and much like my old phone which hung on the wall at home, even if I went on a long vacation. Imagine that…. Not having your phone with you at all times, GASP!!!!

So I treat my cell phone just like that, and I do not engage in any social media, save journeys like this, but always done from my trusty PC. No cell or lappie for me.

So today in my EMAIL, which I get on my PC I am engaged by Triton to enter a drawing for a free sander. However the only way to enter it is via Social Media, I think they demanded either Twitt, or Facething?? Doesn’t matter, what pizzed me off was they told me about it in email, and I couldn’t just enter right there.

Is it just me? I am sometimes a jerk, but the coolest Woman on Earth loves me, so I can’t be that bad.

Have you considered it may have been a spam email?
I check the Triton web sites and found no references to any drawings but if you own one of their tools and they obviously have your email address it could be a drawing for past customers only.

It is my conception that if someone demands that you enter a contest or have to respond thru a socila media other than an email it’s because they want MORE followers to boost their image OR like has been said – it’s a scam

I am pretty much like you SteveN, half the time I dont even know where my phone is, and the other half, when I need it, the battery is dead.

I did do Instagram as marketing thing for what I do now with the boxes, and sold exactly 1 box this way in a year or so. So, waste of time, and I dont participate anymore, better things to do.

It’s just the way the world works now. You can play along. Or not.

My wife gets paid handsomely to send emails, post FB, and a slew of other things. The company loves it and it does drive sales.

Personally insta, FB, etc end up irritating me after 5 minutes.

Contest are ALWAYS a scam.
All they really want is your personal information to be updated, or added to another marketing platform. Worse, they sell your information to any one that will pay for it.

I don’t like following my wife around the store, why in hell would I want to follow some random twit online as they trudge through life?

Just say no to social media.

BTW – Am not a neanderthal. Am a tech junkie, hardware/software designer, and can make stuff out of wood, steel, or plastic. Have several smart phones, but I do not enjoy using them as they suck too much time. Used to be development support for tech support when I was working. Now that I am old and sick, forget more than I remember. sigh

Trust no one! Everything online has a fiction interwoven with reality.
You have been warned…..

Long live the real Captain Klutz!

I have an F150. Great truck. They have a system where you can see repair data, upgrade the computer in it, get notifications of recalls and such. Just sign up on line, but you sign up by them texting you an activation code. No cell phone, no activation.
I’ve thought about it and it seems like discrimination to those who don’t have phones. Then again I do realize that not having a cell phone today is like someone, years ago, didn’t have email and you wanted to send them something. I guess they just go with the (vast) majority.

I hate the modern reliance on social media. They get enough response that way that they don’t care about the rest of us who don’t WANT anything to do with twitface. But it definitely leaves you out of things.

Same goes for the automatic assumption many companies have about cell phone and texting updates (or even confirmation codes). I live in a rural area with no cell service at my home, but THEY (these companies) don’t care about that. If you can’t get a text, you’re just out of luck.

Goes back to an old phrase I have: “Too big to care”. They get enough from those who “fit in” that they don’t NEED to care about the odd little guy who doesn’t.

I too am a tech junkie having retired after 37 years in information technology for a large corporation.

I refuse to give my soul to social media (facebook, instagram, twitter, etc.). I keep up with family and friends the old fashioned way… phone, email and in person. I don’t have time to wade through the manure to get to the tiny bit of good information.

I have a problem with the few small/medium businesses that ONLY have a web presence on facebook. They will NEVER get my business.
