This is my first time working with a walnut live edge cookie. I removed all the bark and I am getting this dark streaking in the sapwood. The dark streaks are only in the middle of the thickness none on the edges at all. I’ve sanded down about 1/8” into the sapwood and it is still apparent. Has anyone had this happen before? Can you sand it out? Thanks.

I would call that a “feature” and be happy with it.

Thanks for the input. It almost looks like a pattern that you can see in the first pic. I just wonder if this is common in walnut slices…

I have one log I sawed that has stripes like tiger maple only it is walnut. Some trees have distinctive differences.
