I have the opportunity to buy a 6” Foley Belsaw jointer that is in great condition and has just had new knives and bearings placed in it. It’s $400 on a classified ad. I’m comparing it to a Powermatic Model 60. This one is in a little worse shape but still good shape. It hasn’t had any replacement of knives or bearings recently. This one is $475. I was just wondering what you guys thought would be the better deal, whether to go with the 8” Powermatic or better shape foley?

8” Powermatic, no question. There’s a reason there’s a ton of used 6” jointers for sale.

8”, if you go for the 6”, you will want the 8” . And you can use the savings toward a shelix head and bearings.

Powermatic I had one in my shop where I taught it’s 60years old and still going strong. It held up to student abuse and I only replaced the blades when it needed them.
