Research flocking, that’s what you’ll want to do here

Thank you. Would that work on already stained wood? If a visual helps: Image a tic tac toe board and I have to line each individual cubby.

I have used adhesive backed felt and there is adhesive Velvet available (Rockler and others have it). Cut to size, remove the backing and install.
You just have to be careful putting it in because the adhesive is quite tacky. One way is to peal back one edge and put in place them carefully pull the rest of the backing as you press it into place.

+1 for flocking. The advantage of it over felt is that it’ll fully and evenly cover the inside of the cubbies. Anything that you cut and stick will have seams in the corners. The kits are inexpensive. Grab some glue and flocking material in the color you want and do a practice run on a small mock up of your piece.

There have been some good tips posted on LJ that might help if you can find them. One was to do the flocking inside a box or something else to catch the excess so you can put it back in the bag.

Make that +2 for flocking.

I’m wavering on flagging this flocking post. :)
