I see a lot of nice saw benches for ripping saw by hand but
everyone puts their knee on them

my knees are bad and out of the picture.

Is there an alternative of some sort?

The jawhorse from Rockwell is a great option, its like having an extra manpower in your workshop for free (just the initial investment lol)

Hey HardasWood

I was a carpenter for 15 years back in my youth and we used simple sawhorses (mid thigh height) and a grabbed a clamp. No knees used by my father or brother but I could get away with due to being flexible.

If you need a drawing, check Fine Homebuilding website and search for “simple Sawhorse”. It’s close enough to what we used.

In the immortal words of The Fonz…..”Sit on it” Just sit down on the saw bench.

Maybe make a sawbench and epoxy a nice knee pad onto the top? I have a decent set I use for tiling etc and they really help my knees.

I want to build the Mike Siemsen Nicholson bench from the naked woodworker.
a small version of it, something like 18” x 48” or maybe even 36”

the largest thing I want to make is a small end table

so I’m trying to stay viceless like he did.
