Hi, i am looking for a Stanley #5, not economy lines. I looked on ebay and they are to pricey for me when you add shipping and the fixer uppers are to much for poor condition of the plane. I am willing to do the work to cut costs thanks mike

You should be able to find a Stanley No. 5 hand plane in almost any antique store or flea market, some of which might need some work before they go back to duty. They were one of the most made size by Stanley and other manufacturers. I think my first foray into hand planes was a Stanley No. 5 as well. Good luck to you

I seem to be well stocked with # 4s but only One #5 and a 5 1/4:) See if you can find a Millers Falls #9 they are usually a tad cheaper?
Appears that the prices on Flea Bay are getting a bit Silly, not to mention shipping cost and that stupid Global Shipping crap.

I have a millers falls 814 it a V line plane an economy plane, and a Sarget Hercules. I got a Stanley #3 the stanley is so much more pleasant to work on and with. Like would you want ride a bicycle after driving a Cadillac. I have checked Millers Falls and Sargent when I was looking for a #4 and there is even less there, what they have is mostly parts

Karda, yes, I have a couple of No. 5s completed. Both looking for a new home.

The left is a type 12 Bailey, and the right is a Marsh M5 (nearly identical to a Bailey). PM me for details!

Hi, Lee just opened the plane, it is reel sweet. I couldn’t ask for better thanks. I appreciate your sharpening the iron. Now I know what sharp feels like. Mike

The Marsh planes look like they’d work well.

I am newbie and don’t know about the different planes. I have noticed in the couple i have that economy planes are not so good, but I have heard and read the the gold standard of vintage planes are the pre war Stanleys. I wanted an early Stanley When lee said he had a restored #5 I took it. It is more than I wanted to pay but it is worth.
