Is Handworks 2020 still happening this year? Seems like everything is getting cancelled due to COVID right now. Trying to figure out if I should book a flight while they're cheap.

That's four months away Allen and if they really think about it, it's a bunch of hand tool nerds who stay secluded in their shops all the time by preference so there's no way they caught the bug.

I booked a rental, haven't booked a flight yet. Maybe I should jump on it too.

The crowds last time were crazy, especially in the main barn. Definitely would not constitute safe social distancing right now. But who knows in early September.

Thanks for the offer Dave, but I've sworn to never do that drive again. Drove up for the last two and it was an insanely long and boring trip.

Honestly Allan I imagine they will have some sort of change to the program. I don't see how they can get away with a packed barn. Lot's of changes coming I imagine but I also think people will figure out whatever the new "norm" will be.

Yeah, when I was there in 2017, I skipped St. Roy's keynote in the main barn because the crowd was too big. I can't imagine them doing that this year, but September is still quite a ways off, so I'm not going to count my geese before they're cooked.

Yeah, it's a long drive, Allen. I was figuring I'd have a stop or two on the way. Maybe go pester Earl or something.

At this point, I'm guessing it'll be called off, but maybe they'll go through with it. If the virus is still an issue, at least there won't be as many people around for football as I was expecting. I'm not sure what they were thinking picking Labor Day weekend. Oh well.

I got an e-mail yesterday that Woodsmith just scheduled their Woodsmith Workshop in Des Moines for the weekend after Handworks. So they at least think such things can go on in Iowa in September. Obviously, it's still an unknown but my guess is that Handworks will probably happen but likely with a smaller crowd and I imagine a lot of non-US vendors will drop off the list. I figure travel in the states will probably be more-or-less back to normal but travel across borders is liable to still be expensive and troublesome.

If it happens and I go, I'll be driving and crashing in someone else's rental so I'm pretty risk-free ;-)

What! You didn't find a drive through eastern CO, NE and IA mesmerizing? I guess you can't see the corn for the stalks. :)

Just got this email:

"Unfortunately we have decided that 2020 just isn't the year for Handworks, we are sure no explanation is needed but the website will reflect further details in the coming months.

The good news is that it will definitely be rescheduled for 2021, dates to be determined. Please keep an eye on the website to re-register. We thank you greatly for your enthusiasm!"

Ya I was pretty bummed. I just learned about it earlier this year and since its only 4 hrs away it was going to be my first time there. My sister and my 4 nieces all live in Des Moines so figured I'd get to see them as well.

Oh well I guess there is next year.
