Topic tags/keywords: finishing polyurethane stain door

I am finishing an interior pine door.

I stained it a dark brown and it looked very nice. Used two coats of stain applied for a few mins each and wiped off. After final coat of stain i let dry for 24 hrs. It did not feel tacky so i proceeded to apply poly.

I applied water based poly with a bristle brush. I stirred poly can before applying. I sanded with 220 and 400 grit. Cleaned it off with a damp cloth and then dried.

After second coat of poly dried (24 hrs) there is a streaky white film across wood. It is really only noticeable if i shine a bright light at it.

Do you know the cause? How can i fix?
