Topic tags/keywords: screws hinges fasteners rare

I’m having a heck of a time finding small #3 screws—especially in a silver finish. Anyone have a lead on where I could dig them up from? (In batches less than 10,000!)

Looking for:

#3 Screws
Silver Finish
1/2” long, 5/8” would be ok too
Phillips strongly preferred, Slotted ok

Tips? Ideas? Thoughts?

McMaster Carr and Grainger seem to have them—but in Zinc (not silver) and only in slotted….

Have you tried Albany County Fasteners?

What size, 3-48 or 3-56?

When you say silver, do you mean silver colored, or actual silver metal?
Bright zinc plating is silver color, so is stainless steel but it has darker gray color?

Bolt depot (and Amazon) sell #3 SS screws with Phillips pan head.
Or do you want socket button head?

Small screws are used a lot in electronic devices. Digikey and Mouser carry many small fasteners as well.

oops, I forget a big one, Fastenal also has #3 fasteners too.

Best Luck!

@Ocelot—Looks like Albany County has slotted brass, but not silver. Thanks for the tip though!

@CaptainKlutz—not real silver—just silver colored is good enough, maybe chromed is really what I’m dreaming about—but right now I’ll take stainless steel, zinc, or anything non-brass. I think the sizes you’re asking about are “machine screws” or bolts—not wood screws (I’m using them for attaching jewelry-box hinges).

You’re both helping me define this further—that’s clearly needed!

Wood screws
Flat Head
Conical/countersunk profile to head (not pan-head, etc.)
Silver-colored metal (not brass or antiqued) #3 head size
1/2” long or 5/8” long
Phillips preferred

Thanks for the tips!

Not sure how many you need. StewMacs has a lot of small screws but they don’t generally tell you the diameter, I would assume so you don’t try to source them yourself. (The trussrod ones do give the diameter which matches a #3 but they’re only 1/4” long). They are very helpful and would tell you if you ask however. Not sure how many you need as they could be quite pricey if you need more than a few.

I found these at Blacksmith Bolt & Rivet. Are they a match?

McMaster-Carr has them in zinc plate, slotted head, both 1/2” (90006A096) and 5/8” (90006A099).

Have your say...
