Topic tags/keywords: jet supermax 2550 sander drum drum sander

Good morning. I’m going to buy a drum sander in the next week or two and can’t decide which unit I want to get. I’ve read a lot of reviews and forum posts online recently regarding supermax and Jet drum sanders. However, most of them are for smaller units. Both of the units are priced the same right now and I get also get an additional $150 off putting each unit at $1650.

1. Any problems in general with either brand of sanders?
2. Ease of switching paper?
3. Dust collection effectiveness?
4. power to handle full width passes?
5. Overall finish level of machine?
6. Customer service if there is a problem?
Any other valuable info?

Thanks for the input.

I have smaller supermax no complaints a friend of mine has the oscillating jet and the finish it produces is awesome. It’s nice to have a friend with a 20” planer and the oscillating sander. One trip and everything taken care of.

I have the Supermax 25-50 and it tends to get out of adjustment and the legs with the casters tend to bend inward if you hit a little bump in the concrete After I bought mine from the Orginal Supermax company they sold out to Laguna which is a company who has had a terrible customer service reputation including my own first-hand experience. A friend of mine has had the Jet for some time and has been very happy with it.

Like Jim I’ve got a Supermax 25/50. It gets the job done but it’s got quirks and issues. Getting the drum adjusted to the table is a PITA, as is changing the paper. That being said I don’t regret buying it.
