Well, here it is the 2nd of April and I’ve mowed the yard twice already. There’s a vacant lot behind me that I’ve been mowing for several years because the owner doesn’t get to it often enough. It’s on my way to the Historical Society to mow their yard so I just drop the deck and spend an additional 20 minutes or so mowing.
I volunteer to mow the Historical yeard and for an extra 20 minutes – what the heck.
All told, by the time I mow my own yard, the lot and the Historical as well as trimming and blowing the sidewalks clear I only have 1 1/2 hours invested ands maybe $3 in gas.
So anyway, just starting April and I’ve mowed twice here in Northeast Ohio
btw. there ws frost on everything this am

Same here in SW Virginia Dick. And I was noticing this morning that the grass is ready for its third haircut. And I haven’t even done my spring fertilizing routine yet. May skip it this year, trying to stay away from the stores.

I was out already with grub and crabgrass killer and there was a litte fertilizer in it. Probably in another few weeks I’ll do the second spring treatmwent. Crab grass and dandelions are my enemy and I declare war on them annually. Crab grass is just like water over adam, you just can’t stop it – if you’re lucky, you can slow it somewhat.

Looking at mine yesterday I could give it a shave in most areas. The weather is warming up and with some sun which we haven’t seen must of lately it will start growing rapidly.

This sounds like good healthy exercise, getting sunshine and fresh air, yet still isolated. Keep up the good work. I myself just walked the community park with my better half, found it invigorating.
As f ok r grass, mine has yet to go beyond stubble, and I’m waiting for the first cutting so I can apply Scott’s 4 Step, number 1.

Have a good day, stay healthy.

Scott’s is what started all this. I had ground moles so bad that the yard looked like crap. After I put grub killer down I went ahead with Scott’s early spring on it.

Well Dick it’s Autumn [Fall] downunder but the grass still needs mowing.

Over spring and summer I only did it about 4-5 times as the drought turned the yard to brown.

Since early February we’ve had a years rain so it’s all green and again and growing with the warm days.

Petrol as we call “gas” is slowing going down in price with the world virus mess,
but still it’s up around A$4.50 a US Gallon for regular.

For the first time in years our Petrol is under $2US. I filled the truck the other day at $1.49us a gallon but the heck of it is — we can’t go anywhere

I had to mow the front yard yesterday, as both neighbors decided it was time to mow.
Didn’t do the back because it is fenced.

Here in Arizona we need to cut lawn year round?

Most HOA require winter over seeding of exposed yards to hide the heat tolerant summer grass that does dormant and brown. End up having a second winter season of cold weather rye grass to mow. Might only cut it twice it month in December/January, but still need to cut the bloody stuff.

Since most lot sizes held under HOA legal bondage are small, cutting these miniature lawns is royal PIA. Takes longer to get mower out of shed and ready to work, than actually cutting the grass. My last two rental places had yards so small, wimpy 2AH electric lawn mower battery can cut grass at least twice before needing charge.
Current place is gravel in front and larger spot of grass in back. Battery is almost dead when let grass get too long before mowing it. Bought an electric mower as manual rotary mowers sell for twice as much.

Used to love solace of cutting the lawn when I younger. As a kid, I cut lawns professionally, even did a summer on golf course. I moved to AZ 20 years, so I could stop cutting grass!
Then as fate would have it;
SWMBO decided kids need a dog, and of course dog needs grass to go bathroom. Plans screwed again! Funny part is dogs like to play on grass, and crap on rocks all way around it?
Grass is over rated PIA!!!!

YMMV
