Topic tags/keywords: wood identification id

I know I am not giving you much to work from, but can anyone id this wood? I have two large pieces 4/4×11” x 8’ not planed. They were milled 30 years ago.

here is a small section that is planed

Any ideas or tests I can do would be appreciated. Thanks, Dave

Photos can be deceiving … info on weight, hardness, chatoyancy, stuff like that helps.

Sapele maybe?

It does have a Sapele look, which looks like Red Grandis, which looks like Mahogany. Sapele has a pretty distinct smell to it. It’s sort of a spicy smell.
