This is why a lot of sites have rules where a new user can’t message users or post pictures or links until they have x number of posts. Some are like 25 posts. Really simple to do on any somewhat modern forum software with a few clicks. Kind of surprised they haven’t done this yet.

It’s a great site. I just accept the inevitable and delete. Only so much can be done.

Go to your setting as fix it so you get no emails from this site,,,,That is what I did this morning… I am tired of it also. I don’t have this problem from other sites.

I get so few messages/emails, that I always take the time to send a personal reply. The nicest message I got was earlier this week from an Ecuadorian Prince, that I relied immediately and we really hit it off, communicating many times since. He really seems like a true friend or brother. He wants to come to our country and asked me for some help to arrange this, and I can’t wait to meet him, though that might not happen right away.

Right after the prince started contacting me, his cousin also contacted me. Really nice also, and was born in the US! He works for the FBI, can you believe that? He told me not to tell the prince we spoke, as he knows the prince wants to visit, and he wants to surpise him!

I am all a twitter with excitement, and the prince assured me that he is not a scammer!

It may only be an aggravation to some, but maybe more serious to others.

95% of my spam comes through Comcast. They have absolutely horrible or no filters.

The very few spams I get on Gmail are virtually ALL from Lumberjocks.

I subscribe to 3 other forums using Gmail and have never received a spam from any of them.

So my conclusion is LJ admins need to do something.

Maybe I don’t understand what is meant by spam emails from LJs. If it is the email notification from LJ that your settings ask to have sent when you receive a new private message on LJ, that is not a spam email. How could your email service, maybe Comcast or Gmail, know that the email from LJ is a notification of a spam private message versus any other private message?

Anyway, I would take 10 times the current level of LJ spam private messages in exchange for getting rid of the robo calls at home!

Agreed! I don’t have e-mail notifications turned on, and never receive any e-mail from LJ… but I do however receive the occasional rogue PM. I just click on the username so I can see the posts they have made, click on one of them, and flag it as spam. A day or so later, both the spammer and the PM are gone (thanks Cricket!). No biggie.

Cheers,
Brad

I look at it as a very small price to pay for unlimited knowledge from other members.

It is often a good idea to check on the qualifications of posters. It only takes a click to look at what information they have given at the Home page or the Projects they are proud of. Of course that’s not important if they’re just offering an “attaboy” on your latest project.
