General 15” Bandsaw

A guy has one and I think it is way overpriced. What are they worth, with no issues?

What something is worth is what one is willing to pay for it and what one is willing to take for it. A good deal is when they line up. A good deal is when both walk away smiling.

Well, look at what a new saw of that class costs. I have been looking carefully on the 14 inch class. Rikon. Laguna. Jet all list $1200. An older saw? Well not knowing if it needs tires, guides, bearings etc, I would not pay more than half of new retail for an older machine. If it is a “real” US built General, maybe slightly more, but plan on guides and tires at least. IMHO.

General, Canadian, very good quality! General International Chinnese/Tiawan less desirable IMHO
A 15” “General” around here would bring in excess of $1000.00.

It’s got Carter guides and he wants $2000 which is $1250 more than I want to pay.

I think you are thinking right. Make him an offer. Sometimes people just post a sucker price as some sucker might pay it. 2 grand will get you a brand new Laguna 18 inch.

Here are my thoughts on used tool pricing:
https://www.lumberjocks.com/CaptainKlutz/blog/129795

In case of discontinued Asia made 15” band saw, a fair price ceiling would be set by replacement cost of similar capability model. Likely the newer 14” steel framed saws with 12” resaw from Grizzly (G0457 ~$1200) or similar Rikon. I expect to pay several hundred less than new replacement, or just go buy new with warranty. Hence, your expectation aligns with mine?

YMMV

WHOA!! That is expensive. What is the resaw height? Can you put a 1” blade on it? You can buy a nice Laguna 1412 on sale for $1000 with a 13” resaw capacity.

It also has extra blades. I would offer $1500 max.

Looks like it has a Kreg fence worth $109.95 and a feather board.

Thanks for all the imput. I think I will pass on it. He just wants too much and its too far apart to negotiate.
