Posting this to save others a headache, especially if you are in Canada where Schedule 20 is rare apparently (at least in GTA)

I was trying to implement this

but in my case the black piece used to connect the hose which he is pushing into the white one was lose.
He is using a connector from Iron pipe to 4" PCV pipe. It has the advantage of having a sholder that helps the reducer to sit well on the lid.
Instead of using that I used a coupler (4") and a corrugated garden pipe to PVC pipe adapter
Prices are in CAD. If I get it done tomorrow I might post pictures. Most of the work is done , I need to glue or silicon it and cut one more 4" piece that will lower the 90D elbow in a better position

Rockier sells kits that screw together on each side of the lid. $20 last time I bought them…

$28 now.

Just checked amazon.ca and it is pricey. Pretty much $50 dollars.

The Rockler people need to get back on this planet. And with them everybody else who sells plastic s..t like for 50USD/CAD or more shipping to a big city like Toronto included. While I get it you can charge a hefty for shipping stuff to Yellow Knife you must be out of your mind to charge 22CAD to ship to Toronto. Even 11CAD in the case of your link

Nice design and something I have considered but exhausting the fine dust outside also exhausts the warm air in the shop. I usually do most of my woodworking in the winter with a wood stove heating the shop so that could also produce a negative draft on the stove's exhaust pipe drawing smoke and CO2 back in.

When I first considered it I was going to put the whole system in a cabinet outside the shop which would also eliminate the noise but again I don't want to loose all that warm air. I guess I could work on a way to filter the air and run it back into the shop.

adding a filter to my dust collector is something that I am also considering -in order to be able to work without venting outside.
That comes with a question mark…-how much static pressure does it add ? For some reasons the output of my DC , where the dust bag is connected is 3" aleady, down from 4" ..I might try to replace that flange

I agree, sometimes the prices are crazy. They sell a track that goes on the ceiling with sliders for holding hoses and such for about $70. I got a pocket door track for about $30, works really well and is longer.

Sure looks like you re making progress towards setting up the shop. Nice work and attention to detail. Any thoughts on what your first project is gonna be?

thank you
The workbench that I have posted about around here a while ago. That is a must before I start anything else because it will free up a lot of space and give me a surface to work on for the other projects.

However my DC Separator headache did not freaking stop here…. pictures coming + issues + new design.
The lid was CRAP…it could have worked but I bought very rigid PVC hoses and they are simply tearing down the lid because of the transmitted torsion forces. I need to design a system that uses a wood lid. New thread coming …damn it! :))

I hope there is a place in hell for the guys who produced the PVC Hose I have been wrestling with for the last three hours.
I had no idea that it was so difficult to handle, cut, put in place where needed and so on. I guess it could also be due to poor quality
Beginner's mistake to buy this crap
