Topic tags/keywords: spam sales pitches solicitations private messages

Is it now Open Season on Lumberjocks for Spam Solicitations Through Private Messages?

Has Lumberjocks decided to monetize its Private Messaging portal? For the past three weeks I’ve received sales solicitations directed at me through the Private Message portal. I have complained about this twice with no results, nor even a response from Lumberjocks.

Today, I received my next-to-last spam solicitation through the PM portal. The next one I receive will be the last one since I will then IMMEDIATELY cancel my association with Lumberjocks and remove ALL my projects and posts.

I like the site and enjoy participating, but if being bombarded with unsolicited ‘Private’ Messages is the price to be paid, then I’m gone.

Erik

If you read the post stickered at the top of the forums page, you’ll see they’re working on it and that the PM system definitely hasn’t been monetized. And also that posts like this one make their job harder. A little patience isn’t really too high a price for a site and service that’s provided to us free of cost IMO.

Erik,

It’s all spam. They’ve been struggling to block it for months.

I finally changed my profile so that I don’t receive PMs (I think).

... meanwhile I am seeing ads (right here on this page) promoting deviant behaviour, which I find appalling.

For all of those that are complaining about the spam attack – if you know how to fix is, step up and do so. Otherwise, quit bitching about it and let the professionals do their job, or quietly move along. I, for one, am willing to delete a few nefarious spam PM’s and let Cricket and her techs get on with their work.

Very little effort to hit delete. Much more required to complain. I can live with the problems to use this great site.

Bah bye….................................

if ya gotta go, ya gotta go, me thinks a website is just a web site, has faults and issues, much like working wood, some days are beautiful moments, and others well. lets just say….......they could be better, i myself couldn’t imagine to even monitor or manage a site, with all the needs of the many.

I too can live with it. My email system has captured these emails and properly placed them in the SPAM folder. I happened to look in the SPAM folder and saw them.

I typically don’t use any notification options here or anywhere else. Collectively it would be too much noise. I’m OK with seeing updates when I get around to it.

All I see is ads for work boots and tools. Doubleclick and other ad severs target based on cookies that track your internet history. They aren’t always 100% accurate, especially if you block cookies.

It has been pointed out that Cricket has been on vacation, which dampens my ire considerably. I’m going to have patience for a while longer so the techies can attempt to deal with it.

I consider Lumberjocks to be a symbiotic relationship. Lumberjocks provides a platform, and users provide the meat and potatoes which make the site popular.

For those of you who are fine with accepting spam, well good on you then. You’re welcome to it. My patience wears too thin to deal with it every day. Hopefully, the techies will work out a filter soon.

Repeated posting over and over are just as annoying as spam.

It is the world today. Maybe we all need a thicker skin. I had a little known e mail provider, and no junk mail, but my wife got tired of paying for the service. I now have a free service, and it comes with all the junk I can eat, no charge. Pay now or later. I know this is a different kind of problem, but our nerves are on edge due to the amount of junk mail and scams out there today. Cricket will get it fixed, it just may take some time. Happy holidays to all. Relax and enjoy.

This spam is every where. I get spam phone calls all the time so getting them on a free site is no surprise. Half the time by the time I get on here the messages are gone already.
