I am getting a lot of messages which originate from Lumberjocks with titles to threads I have replied to, reviews I have made and items I have listed for sale. All originate from woodworkllpl and the message is always the same, wanting me to click on a link to get 16,000 plans.

Is anyone else getting these messages and what can be done to stop the foolishness?

It’s not a “hacking” issue, someone is just spamming the comment area. I’m surprised that the moderators or admins aren’t blocking this… been going on for a week now.

It might be an automated script, or someone just has a lot of time on their hands to be manually sending private messages to everyone.

LJ has not been hacked. It is a spammer who is posting to various forum topics and also sending PMs just as one of your online friends might. If you have email notifications turned on to get informed when someone posts to a project or forum topic you are following/watching, LJ sends you and email so anytime the spammer posts to this, you get an email from LJ. You can simply go to that thread and click the flag link to mark it as spam so that the admin can remove the spammer and their messages. Only do this to one of their messages.

Cricket and the admin folks are working on it.

The site isn’t working correctly – or let me say it this way: It isn’t working like it has in the past.

When I click on “pulse” and go to me watchlist, the screen shows all the posts, not just my watchlist.

And even though i am correctly logged in, I am getting considerably more ads and pop ups than I have ever seen before.

For me, the site is not as pleasant to use right now.

I’m about to say goodbye to Lumberjocks as I’m receiving FAR TOO MUCH SPAM in my emails.. Lumberjocks used to do a really good job keeping the spammers out of here but all this TED’s woodworking bullshit is too much and I have had enough. NO, turning off email notifications to forum threads I’m following is NOT an option. Either this gets fixed or I’m outta here.

I used the wrong terminology, I should have said spammed instead of hacked. Hopefully an admin somewhere will block this user sometime. I have had about 15 messages so far that have originated from this spammer here on LJ.

While I understand the complaints, let’s slow the roll. We are using this site for free due to the generosity of the owner, who presumably has a life outside of moderating the site. For me this site is invaluable and I can personally live with an inconvenience or two.

I apologize for starting a crap storm. Wasn’t aware if anyone else was having the same thing happen to them since I have been off the site for almost 6 years. The emails are deleted as quickly as I get them but they are a nuisance.

Scott and David, Just go to your home on LJ and edit the email notifications. Uncheck the send email for items you are watching and most of the nuisance spam to your email will go away. If you normally just come to the website to catch up on your watchlist, that will at least keep the spam out of you email inbox.

BTW, I suspect that this is not actually “Ted” doing this. Whoever “Ted” is has an affiliate marketing program that probably gives them revenue for clicks to their website, so whatever you do, don’t click on their links even to see how it works. The website linked to by the spammer probably redirects you to the actual Teds site.

If you click on the profile of the user posting these messages, you can block them. I am not sure if it stops the email notification when them post but worth a try.
