I am building a buffet table and need some help in the ends build.

Need to best way to attach the end panels to the legs and cross pieces.

Rabbit, dado, tenon, etc.

legs and cross pieces are are 2×2.

I will want the panel pieces inset.

If you want a frame and panel, the typical way is to run grooves in the legs and rails.

Yeah that’s true like a raised panel door I could cut a three-quarter inch Groove in the rail in the style and insert the sections

You want post and panel construction, same thing as frame and panel except the stiles are legs and thicker.
