Help. I bought a house and the former owner was a hangman. On his workbench he left this attached and I have no idea what it is.

-- Measure with a micrometer, mark with a crayon, cut it with a chainsaw.

Looks like the bench grinder tool rest from Veritas (or a clone?):

Obviously the hangman mingled in other jobs,
This is the pedal that pulls the pin out to drop the blade on a guillotine.

Or it could just be a tool rest.
