I have my entire shop set up with 6” galvanized pipe with an older 2hp collector with a 5” inlet and a 20” x 24” 1 micron canister filter with approximately 5 sqare meters of filter. The collector is placed on a mezzanine in the shop over my sheet goods storage rack. It worked ok in my old shop and is passable in the new shop but I’m always looking for better….

I am using a clear vue cyclone connected between the main trunk line and the collector. After 4 years in the old shop and almost a year in the new one there is likely less than 4 cups of dust in the collector bag.

I have an opportunity to pick up an older general 3hp collector with just the plain dust cloth filter. But it uses two of them. The filters are interchangeable with my current collector, but I only have one canister filter…

Since I have the cyclone and the amount of dust that is actually filtered is minimal, would it work if I just used one filter and blocked off the other side?

Looking at a 3 hp with built in cyclone assuming it uses a 16×48” filter, I would be within 86% of the required surface area….

Just curious if anyone has done something like this??
