SWMBO would like to change color on a dinette that has what I believe to be a factory applied paint. I would like to spray Aqua Coat Black Lacquer. Could I spray seal-coat shellac and then the lacquer? Assuming a good cleaning with some TSP and perhaps a liquid de-glosser before the shellac?

I think that’s the way I would do it. The shellac will act as a sealer to any remaining contamination (like silicone) and prodise a good base for the new top coat.
