Topic tags/keywords: drill press

Been naughty again, and have done some more shopping. But with goodies like these last two, I don’t care if Santa does bring me coal in December. Here’s what’s coming within a week. Also with a 1/2 inch capacity chuck:

True, It is missing the vise/table. While unfortunate, this has kept this piece within my (stretched) reach. A complete Millers Falls No 21 sells for at least 3 1/2 times what this one cost. (For that matter, MOST of the little 1/4 inch capacity drill presses sell for at least two and a half times what this one did). I have been very fortunate in finding these last two pieces, but I’m not gonna push my luck or my bank account any further for awhile. I’ll content myself by playing with these two wonderful finds, at least until Santa makes his executive decision in December….

She arrived yesterday, and I got some time to tinker with her and lubricate the stuffing outta her. The drilling mechanism is still rather stiff, but I’ll work on that a bit more this morning to see if I can get her turning more freely. Aside from this little issue, she’s a fun contraption to have in the woodshop!

Jim, What a dummy I am!!! Disassembled and cleaned the lowering/drilling mechanism this morning. Found that there was a small set screw in the outer shaft that was too tight. A little more cleaning and adjustment of this set screw, and she spins real nice now. Done drilled me a coupla holes to try ‘er out. Been wanting a nice hand cranked drill press for many years. I am very fortunate to have been able to acquire this one. Great little device.

Looked at the link you shared. Classes look good. Based on this last experience, maybe I should sign up for a ‘Remedial Woodworking” class…… 8^)
