I am looking into getting a band saw. There are many choices out there and wanted to ask what others have and what they might recommend or change about what they've purchased. I've looked for a few years for a used band saw and where I am there isn't much to choose from unless I want to pay $250-$450 for a crappy plastic craftsman band saw that market is flooded with.
Rikon?
Grizzly?
Jet?
These all have some nice band saws for less than $900. Grizzly actually has a 17" band saw on sale for $875 with the 2hp motor. Seems like a really nice band saw. But I've always heard great things about Rikon band saws as well.
I have a Grizzly G0555x that seems like a nice saw, however I rarely use it and know so little about bandsaws I cannot make a recommendation. A lot depends on what you intend to use it for, and the space you have. I think the three you mention all have good saws.
I would watch for a Rikon steel frame 14 inch saw to go on sale. The Grizzly already mentioned is good too but the Rikon has better resaw capacity if you need to do that.
I've never had a good bandsaw and I have so many things come up that I really needed one for. I don't know if I would be doing any resawing but it would nice to have the option. This is the grizzly I mentioned in the post that's on sale.
I've been reading a lot about the Rikon 10-326 and the Laguna 1412 and the Rikon has a 5 year warranty to the Lagunas 1 year. I've seen mixed reviews on the Laguna and have had a hard time finding much of anything negative about the Rikon 10-326. I'm leaning toward the Rikon. Going to see how long I can hold out for a sale. Thanks everyone for the replies.
