So, my workshop is in my basement because my one car garage is too small to work in. My washer and dryer for washing/drying our clothes are also in my basement. I was wondering if there were any wood finishing products that anyone could recommend that won’t cause the kerosene type smell in the dryer. I thought that using paste wax would be ok, but I was wrong. I would really like to be able to put some kind of hardening finish on my work bench, but I dont want to funk up my clothes in the process.

Use disposable applicators and wear an apron.

Suggest Tried and True (T&T) products. I prefer original wood finish for my work bench. Zero solvent, smells almost sweet. Can also use T&T Danish Oil, which is simply food safe Boiled Linseed oil (BLO). All three of these make good work bench finishes.
Best Luck.
