I live in Orlando and I’m trying to source some 8/4 poplar for some doors I want to build, but I can’t seem to find anyone in the area who has it, or is willing to get it. I’ve called 84 lumber and Thomas Lumber, they don’t stock it, but said they could order it, however I’ve called both places twice and left my information to inquire about pricing, but haven’t received a call back.

Does anyone know anywhere in the Central Florida area where I can get some 8/4 poplar?

call a cabinet shop and ask if they’d sell you some. chances are they get a weekly delivery and won’t mind selling you some with a small markup

A cabinet shop would have 8/4 poplar? I wouldn’t have thought they would. I do know of a few nearby, I’ll check with them.

Check out Rockler in Altamonte, Woodcraft in Longwood area, or Gleman & Sons in Sanford. I’m in Mt Dora and source my lumber from them or on occasion from FB Marketplace.

A bit far, but there are two very good hardwood dealers in Tampa: Intercity Lumber and Craftsman Supply. I have dealt with both and both are excellent. There is a company in Lakeland: Hardwood Lumber & Millwork. I have not dealt with them.

I certainly don’t mind driving to Tampa if they have what I need.

I’ll give them a call, thanks.

If you are willing to drive my woodworking club has it for 1.75 a bdft. You only have to drive to Ft. Wayne Indiana. A local lumber supplier charges 3.30 bdft. I hope you find a local source that is reasonable on the price. I am lucky there’s several places to buy domestic or exotic wood within a 2 hour drive. Good luck on finding a local lumberyard. Sorry I couldn’t be any help.

Thank you for posting this link. I found a neat place (Woodcraft) in the next town that is open Saturday and Sunday.

I’m in Central FL as well. Woodcraft is where I typically go, though I do find their prices are a bit higher than other places.

I didn’t say they would have it, I bet they order 4/4 poplar every week and wouldn’t mind making a few bucks off adding you some 8/4 to their next order. ;-p

I’ve been to WoodCentral a number of times, and never saw that page, neat link. Thanks

Got to looking at it, and there was only one I didn’t know about, and their website seems they have changed focus from selling wood, to making wood furniture, oh well

Incredibly not listed on that searcher was my new best playground M. Bohlke Corp They got wood.

Just ask Google maps! They know all where most of the lumber yards are hiding:

Seems like might be many options in area besides building supply store?

Can also find ‘sawmill’ same way. :-)

Best Luck!
