Topic tags/keywords: ship wooden model

Gents,

I have been out of the shop for a couple of months now and the reason is I had to do some major repairs to the house. I should be back in the shop next weekend finishing up my M-1 Abrams tank. I have been thinking about what project I’m going to do next and I’m thinking about tackling a wooden ship.

My question to you all is, does anyone have a good set of plans on how to make a wooden ship or know of a decent website I can purchase plans? Thanks for reading and pictures of the tank will be coming real soon.

I can’t help you with the plans, but what type of ship are you looking for? You might be wanting anything from an old Viking ship to a modern aircraft carrier with planes and all. Or maybe an LCAC to carry your M1.

Wayne, to be honest I’m not exactly sure kind of ship I want to build. I was thinking about “old Ironsides” might be a fun one to build. I do know I want to build a ship that is around 3-4 feet long and tall. Thanks for helping.

Go big or go home I guess. Lol

Hi, I was thinking about wooded boat models and I came across a website called bluejacket. You might try them if they don’t have anything maybe they can help

I went to visit old ironsides a few months ago, really cool ship! Near me there is a model ship builders club, they had a booth at the country fair recently at the Design in wood exhibit, maybe something like that exists near you?

Google “model ship kits and plans.” There are many sources on the Internet. You might want to consider a kit before you bite off building a complicated plan from scratch. Some of the kits are very intricate and detailed (and expensive).

I looked at a few ship plans. From what they let me see, YIKES. I think, for my skill set, I would go with the USS Minnow.
