Topic tags/keywords: router triton mof001 tra001 tra-001 mof-001 widest bit

Hi all,

I’m putting together a router table package and have been waffling between building my own based around the cast iron tops available, or buying the current Rockler cast iron table package thats on sale this month and picking the right plate/router – best bang for buck always a consideration. After way too much research, I’ve decided that the Triton TRA001 would be the only router I would choose to go with the sale package w/fixed insert (only long term consistent reviews I’ve seen on above table adjustments and bit changes w/o a lift), otherwise would build my own and chose a different lift/router combo. Only thing stopping me is that the Triton base opening is just over 3” (I’ve read 3-1/16, but couldn’t confirm) and use of a 3-1/4” wide rail bit recessed into the table is a requirement. I’m not above buying the triton and reaming the mount a bit for it to clear, but based on the pics I’ve seen w/o the plunge plate on, it seems I would have to completely remove the ‘rim’ which I imagine would greatly compromise the integrity – any opinions/info on this appreciated.

I have the smaller Triton router (2.25 hp) and the opening at the bottom of my router is 3-1/8”. Maybe the larger Triton has a larger base opening? I measured my Porter Cable 690 and the opening is about 3-3/4”.

Thanks for the info. A salesman at Rockler measure one and it looked just a tad bigger than 3” so I imagine its the same. I was hoping the base opening was a thicker material that I could ream a bit, but I’m guessing maybe an 1/8” from the pic I’ve seen? The PC, Milwaukee and a few others have a large enough opening but I like the options to adjust and change the bits on the Triton.
