I was just wondering if there is a forum on LJ for people to discuss local woodworking meetups. Not just formal woodworking associations or groups, but for people to connect in real life, locally. I ask because I am a pretty new woodworker and I’m also new to the Sacramento area. I haven’t found anything on Meetup or Facebook for local woodworkers, but I’d really like to connect with people who know a whole bunch more than I do. (An admittedly pretty wide scope.) Just curious.

Go to where the guys drink beer and remember to count how many fingers they have.

Not that I have seen? Occasionally see threads for local events.

1) IMHO – You’ve got two clubs; Nor-cal woodturners and Gold Country Woocrafters in your area.
Start there.
Club meetings are where people who are not hiding anonymously hang out. :-0)

2) For those folks that put their location in their profile, you can search for cities or state and find LJ in your area. If they are active, send a PM and schedule a meet.

Best Luck!

i’ve taken a few classes at a couple of the wood/tool vendors and met some awesome individuals along with being very amazing wood workers, and the acquaintance has enriched my information and skill base. never too old to learn a little thing or two.

I just check to see where all my buddies are located and If I’m in the areal, I ask them if they would like to meet somewhere for coffee or at a wood or material source in the area. I try to meet a new LJ or 2 every year.
I just looked at my list and there a lot of guys in Calif. but none listed at Sacramento.

When I’m in Arizona in the winter. I meet a lot of guys at the dead Tree Salvage sawmill and bring in a lot of new customers for John Goodwin at the mill. It is the only source of Pistachio I have ever found.

Cheers, Jim
