Topic tags/keywords: question coffee table design mid-century modern mission cherry modern shaker arts and crafts mahogany walnut

I’ve been asked to make a coffee table for a friend’s 60th birthday. If you clip or save favorite designs, I’d love to see them.

Thoughts (no required):

Not live edge (love live edge, just not going there this time, unless it’s an incroporation and not the entire top)
Perhaps a shelf
Metal legs are possible
Wood will be cherry or Walnut as primary, may figure out how to incorporate some quatersawn sycamore.
I tend to work in the intersections of shaker, MCM, mission

Watcha got?

Check out Charles Mackintosh, or Kevin Rodel for some ideas that are a bit more unique in the mission/craftsman genre.

I really liked this one by John Billing in FWW:

So I made my own version of it (still need good photos taken, this will have to do for now):

Also Derek Cohen has been knocking out some killer coffee tables lately. Check out his work here on lumberjocks and his website http://www.inthewoodshop.com/Furniture/

You said no live edge unless incorporated. This one is fully incorporated. If you can find the right slab and a good glass man, this one can be simple and quick to build.
