Anyone here experience a speed control problem with a jet1221vs lathe?
I think mine is shot and am trying to find a replacement part. I bought the lathe new 7-2015 so I dono if it owes me anything, I think there’s plenty of life left and believe it’s worth fixing.
Any suggestions where to buy a replacement part or how to fix it would be appreciated.

Thanks, Lawrence

First, call Jet. The customer service is excellent. It would appear that the 5 year warranty is still in effect, assuming the 5 year warranty period was offered in 2015. Mine works great; but, it is only a little over a year old.

Thanks Hockey. The two numbers they post on their home page are “not in service at this time”
I’ll keep trying.

I would be okay with just an on off switch and change the belt/pulley for rpm speeds by hand, but the motor is weird, there are two wires coming out of the side of the motor and plugged into the switch terminals. The motor hums but does not spin when plugged into 110v
Does anyone here know if the vs switch can be bypassed somehow and use the motor with an on off switch?

Still can’t get through on the phone to jet.

Do you have your manual still? That may tell you whether it is still under warranty.

Just found a manual online for the Jet 1221VS with edition date of 12/2014, and it shows a 5 year warranty on woodworking machinery.

Right…I found that too. I’ll try in the morning again to get through to jet.
If they will warrant the switch I’ll be surprised.. like I said though I don’t think they owe me. Ive put a lot of hour on this and its been a good lathe.
Maybe I can fgr a way to bypass the fancy stuff.. switch that is

Thanks Hockey

Think your asking for trouble trying to by-pass on & off switch. Would wait till get hold of tech rep explain your problem even if part not under warranty. While understand your problem posted don’t have any idea how to fix it.

Have Jet 1642, long story short lathe slowed down by itself and finally didn’t run. Called and tech rep told me needed new on off switch, so ordered one cost me $60 and took me less than an hour to fix! That was four or five years ago and my lathe was out of warranty.

Bottom line whether in or out of warranty will might save from having to buy new lathe.

Wildwood your story is encouraging. I emailed them this morning, we’ll see how it goes. Still can’t get through on the phone????

However, I ordered a new one yesterday off Amazon about 80 bucks cheaper this time!

Calling will be better than an email. I will PM you with the number I have used. In fact, I just tried it and it got me to a holding position for tech support.

Cool. Nothing wrong with 2 lathes. Glad that Jet’s customer service came through. My experience with Jet customer service has always been great.
