Hey all I was wondering if someone could give me some advice regarding walk in closet cabinet design. I am trying to determine the best standard measurements for the closet I am trying to building. There seems to be a concensus regarding height of certain things like hanging polls etc. However I cannot find a recommendation regarding depth of drawers/shelves and hanging areas. Also is there a recommendation regarding width of the units that will make up the closet. Any advice would be appreciated.

A little detail. I am planning to use plywood instead of melamine seems easier to work with. I think I will pain in the end but I may decide to splurge on plywood and get cherry or something and finish it differently.

Thank you
Lenny

Yeah, Google pics, Housz, Pinterest will all have a lot of idea pics. Silly as it seems, just go the the BORG and measure the pieces they sell made of particle board. The are all within an inch of pretty much everything out there, Except the true custom stuff, but a lot of that is 10, and 12’ walls. Super Homes of the rich…..

Using several different search terms will get more results. This is closet organizer pics

Thanks for the advice everyone. I have essentially done what you all recommended. The borg along with other locations typically use a 14” depth for closets while it seems more high end closets including what the youtuber built are closer to 24” in depth. I can not find any recommendation for depth based on particular reason or experience. I presume with 24” depth then the closet can have doors for everything and be fully closable while smaller depths will allow for the hanging clothes the protrude.

Thank you again

I don’t think there is any standard, as closets are as variable in size as the houses they are built in. The cabinets you are making should be custom to the closet. You want to have room to stand in front of a drawer and be able to open it fully with out having to back into a wall. Other than that, there are no rules.
