I see Weaver shapers pop up on auctions every once in a while. I can’t find a whole lot of information on them, despite the fact that they are still in operation and apparently have been operating since the 1920s. What first caught my attention about these machines is that they look like beefy shop-built router tables rather than actual shapers but they get bids above and beyond the value of many conventional shapers.

So what is the deal with these? What’s special about them?

The Weaver website seems to indicate that their shapers are specially designed for building doors. Is that all they are good for? What kind of features makes them so desirable for building doors?
