Topic tags/keywords: miter gauge table saw bench dog

Does anyone here have one of these, or even remember it?

I just bought one at an estate sale a couple of days ago, and there seems to be hardly anything about them to be found on the web. Bench Dog doesn’t really seem to exist as a company any more, just as a brand name owned by Rockler.

The distinguishing feature of this miter gauge is that the head (and fence) rotates 360 degrees, not limited to plus or minus 45 degrees or so as most are. It can be used as a tapering jig or at any other angle you want, as long as you clamp the workpiece carefully. I haven’t actually tried to use it yet.

Here are a couple of photos, showing it at the 30-degree setting. It’s quite heavy, solid construction. It weighs 2.5 pounds more than a Kreg miter gauge and about a pound more than the Incra 10000SE.

Never seen one but it looks like a solid tool that’s well designed. I’d have definitely picked it up if I saw it at a yard sale!

I agree that’s a good looking miter gauge. Be hard for me to pass on.
Good luck

One of the few tidbits I could find online was a posting on Sawmill Creek from 2007, apparently showing an email received from BenchDog in response to a query about it.

“Sorry, there is no discussion of bringing it back. The year it debuted,
it won Best New Tool. At about $200+, the price was a little hard to
swallow. Even at that price, we lost money on every unit sold. It was
called Miter-Loc 360 and the special feature is that the adjustable
fence could spin around the miter bar 360 degrees and be locked in any
position. “

I thought I remembered a product called Miter Loc, but it wasn’t that, never seen that but looks interesting.

And I just came across the patent issued to Bench Dog for it. Mine is marked “Pat. pend.”

Patent 6,691,423
