Topic tags/keywords: lathe cole jaws question I just received my 12” cole jaws for a Nova chuck. Everything is fine except the key isn’t long enough and tightening the jaws takes forever as I can only turn the key slightly as it now bumps the 12” jaws. Any thoughts? -- Tom, New London, NH |

You don’t say which chuck. If the SN2 you can get extended allen wenches like this 9” arm. Probably even the 6” arm would work since the chuck body is about 4”. For a G3 I can only suggest shortening the top arms so they will pass as I saw in one video. If you know a welder it would be simple to cut it in half and weld in an extension. -- We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them. Albert Einstein |

The key for my nova chuck is machined about a 1/4” up so it can go in the chuck at a slight angle. -- Bruce, Boise, ID |
