With Memorial Day rapidly approaching, my social media feeds are already filling with planned celebrations, backyard barbeque plans, and family get-togethers. I just want to make sure that while we spend time with friends and family over the upcoming 3 day weekend that we never forget the reason for this holiday, to remember and honor those who gave all.

How do you spend Memorial Day weekend?

The normal BBQs, get-togethers, etc. We have a few things that go on here in our community that I try to attend. Thankfully, I also remember the friends and family that aren’t with us anymore. Mel

For me, I have “Memorial day” throughout daily life. My question is this- The school classroom- after standing for the pledge of allegiance to our flag… I have noticed that the “please remain standing for a moment of silence..” Is gone from the classroom!
Then when will they choose not to stand?
As for LumberJocks, my memorial-
Jbay
Papadan
AKguy (but he isn’t gone yet)...

Yet? I guess you never know. One slip of the tongue.

That’s for sure, Cricket. We need to remember the reasons for all the holidays and what they mean to our country and our people!!

Cheers, Jim

My dad use to use that day to travel to the suburbs of Chicago, and we would go and attend to the graves of our family every year. We would then go to Russel’s for outstanding BBQ.. It’s vivid in my memory!

First year as a retiree rather than active duty, unfortunately I’ve got more lost souls to remember this time of year than I would like.

So many have told me that our young people today don’t understand.

It is up to us to teach our kids and grandkids so that we never forget.

Thanks to ALL above! Thanks for keeping it a/an military/armed-forces Memorial Day of Remembrance.

With the demise of the Military Draft, so many have lost awareness of just what military service/sacrifice is all about. This is unfortunate for sure. Thanks Cricket, for keeping this day special.
