Topic tags/keywords: planer thickness planer cutech dust collection

Just got a Cutech thickness planer, model 40200H-CT 13” Spiral Cutterhead Planer. The planer works great, but the dust collection is terrible. I’m using a Delta 1 hp dust collection system (model 50-723, 750 cfm) which seems fine with my SawStop cabinet saw and my Cutech benchtop jointer. The 4” hose from my dust collector is attached to the 4” dust port on the planer, and the 2.5” port is occluded (tightly!) with the insert designed for this. I can’t find any obvious “leaks” in the system. I can feel the vacuum very close to the port, but the vacuum power fades rapidly with distance away from the port. Overall, dust collection is almost nonexistent, even when I start with an empty dust collection bag. Anyone else have this experience? (Is my setup wrong?). Thanks, Howard

My older 12 1/2” Delta planer doesn’t have a dust collection. When I use it, I set a 2 1/2” hose attached to a 650cfm collector, the hose is set 1/2” from the planer and 1/2” above the board being feed at the outfeed side. the I mount a 1 1/2” hose 4 inches over and 4 inches higher from the other hose, to collect the finer dust. This method allows me to catch over 80% of the shavings and dust. a lot less on the floor now verses not using the hose. you may have to adjust your set-up, to minimize you clean up. This probably won’t help you, but works for me.
