It appears to be a Corsair (by Great Neck) ... not a really top-line plane.

I inherited a Corsair smoothing plane many years ago. I used to HATE the thing. Finally took time to reshape the tote handle so that it will actually FIT a human hand, made some other adjustments and now I truly enjoy using it. You don’t get “bragging privileges” with a Corsair, but, after a bit of work, you get a decent, user quality plane.
Nowadays of course, one can just BUY replacement totes from Highland Hardware, Woodcraft and the like. That makes the job a bit easier.

I have a Corsair C-5 jack plane….frog uses a single bolt to attach to the base casting ( Cyclops?) and a tight notch onto a rib…wide mouth…iron has a 8” radius edge….as it is used as a scrub plane…Paid $8 for mine, at an Antique Store….

I hay several Millers Falls planes…VERY good planes. I also have quite a few OLDER Stanley hand planes.

You Millers Falls should tune up quite nicely…

You would have indeed overpaid by a great margin if you bought that Corsair.
The MF plane is a far superior plane, and is functionallly equivalent to a Stanley.

What I got for $8…

Corsair C-5 Jack plane ..( however, Ohio Tool Co. also painted their planes a red colour, as well as Brown colour, but it would have an “0-5” cast in the base)

Sole was indeed flat…at least for a jack plane..

I used a cambered iron, since I use this plane to flatten rough lumber, and cupped/bowed boards, 8” radius…

No alignment issues with this frog…no adjustments either….seemed to just lock in place, no issues with it.

So…unless that $60 plane WAS an Ohio Tool Co. plane…instead of the Corsair….still over priced. BTW, Estes brand planes also were painted red….lever cap used a thumbscrew instead of a lever….sold as Dunlap in the states..and they used two frog bolts…

First rule of tool rehabbing: PATIENCE!

Soaking in penetrating oil and leave it alone—in other words, be PATIENT
