So I am trying out undermounts for the first time. Decided to go with the Grass Dynapro 3d slides. These are for an inset application and I have the appropriate right and left locking devices for both the front and back. I also have the rear brackets for the slides themselves, and the jig for the holes in the drawer for the locking devices. So I think that I am all set, but having never used undermount slides before, I am unsure how wide and deep to make the drawer boxes? I am using 3/4” pine for the drawer boxes and 1/2” pine ply for the drawer bottoms.

What width should the drawers be relative to the opening?

First off, for 3/4” drawer sides you need to be sure to use the Dynapro 19 guides. Dynapro 16’s are meant for 5/8”
Maybe you already verified this – I’m just trying to be thorough with my reply.

Secondly, undermount guides are calculated from the INSIDE of the box, since that is the point of contact with the guide. For the Dynapro 19 it is 31/32” from the inside of the drawer to the side of the opening on each side.
Figuring a 3/4” side thickness, your overall box width would be the opening minus 7/16”.

Here is the relevant page in the Dynapro catalog.

Hope that helps.

I checked the box and I have the Dynapro 16’s so I will plane down my drawer sides (tail boards) to 5/8”. What would the calculation be for 5/8” sides?

Can anyone tell me how to figure this for 1/2” or 5/8” drawer stock?

Ok I figured it out. For 1/2” sides, you subtract 5/8” from the opening. Now does any one know if the 21” Grass Dynapro 16’s take exactly a 21” drawer? Or should I make the drawer a little less?

Sorry, I was off the board for a while.
Deduct 3/8” overall (3/16” per side) for clearance using the Dynapro 16’s and 5/8” Sides.
Deduct 5/8” overall for 1/2” sides using Dynapro 16’s.

Make the drawer exactly 21” deep overall.

This is a good drawer slide. You should like them once you get it dialed in.
