Hey all,

Does anybody know what kind of wood this is? I’m having trouble getting my wipe on poly (minwax) to give it the look I want. It seems as if parts of the wood are still soaking it up, and I’ve put on 5 coats. Trying to get it to match the sheen of the base that it sits on (it’s a desk). The stain on top is Varathane Weathered Gray. Thank you!!

Looks like pine plywood. Early wood is softer and soaks up more stain than the late wood.

Gotcha! Learn something new every day. I’ll keep on poly-ing it. Thanks for your help!
