Topic tags/keywords: jointer planer shopping

I need to purchase a jointer, would like to upgrade my planer as well (or fix it and get it running right), so I’ve been working on a Google Sheets spreadsheet, thought I’d share it, and if anyone wants I can share it directly from my Google drive.

I thought it might be helpful for any other folks in the market currently. Some notes

HH = helical/spiral head
STR8 = straight knives
Everything else should be pretty self-explanatory. I would like to get an automatic price grabber, and make this dynamic, but I’m not sure of any good websites that I could easily grab this data from (like PCPArtPicker for PC equipment).

If I’m missing any major brands/tools, let me know and I’ll update it.

Interesting ….. I’ve a related question: any likelihood of dewalt introducing a DW735 with a helical head in the future? Has there ever been any announcements / rumours …..?

I hope Dewalt doesn’t go HH. It’s alreay a great planer with straight knifes.

I don’t see any European brands on your spreadsheet.

Edit to add, on a second look I do see Hammer on the list but there are more. I don’t see Oliver either.

Oh man, I was just hunting for a planer and jointer a month ago. Just FYI, I’m the founder of PCPartPicker that you mentioned in your post. My planer/jointer/dust collector all got sold off when I had kids and the garage became stroller storage. We just got office space and I’ve allocated a portion to be a shop. Anyway, you mentioned automated pricing – that’s right in our wheelhouse. I think I could throw together a quick price aggregator for certain tool categories if I can get the data feeds from the right retailers. I’d be happy to look into it if people would be interested.

Have your say...
