I just bought a new HF 2HP dust Collector and am modding it with the Wood River cyclone lid into a 30 gallon trash can.

One of the things I read about some people upgrading is the impeller, changing it from the plastic impeller to a metal one. Well I am starting to build this today and when I unpacked it all, I discovered that it already has a solid metal impeller.

This unit looks slightly different from some of the others I have seen that they sold previously. Anyway, I used a 20% coupon and got it for $167, then spent another $50 for the cyclone lid and trashcan.

I thought the impeller was always metal, it’s just 9 inches. The upgrade was to a bigger one from rikon that gave more airflow. Maybe I’m wrong though.

I did the impeller upgrade. The orginial is 10”, new is about 12”. None of the orginial impellers were ever plastic as far as I know.

I have a Delta DC that the motor burned up. I’m either going to use motor from my HF to get the delta going again or try to put the delta impeller in the HF. I don’t even know which is possible, but I imagine I will just try to put the HFmotor on the Delta DC.

You might be right, but could have swore I saw before they were plastic, if not, my bad for pointless post…

I can’t imagine that a plastic blade would hold up. I’ve had a few chunks of wood pass through my dust collector that would have wreaked havoc on a plastic blade.

I bought mine about 3 years ago, it was metal then, too. Just undersized (I upgraded to the Jet impeller…required me boring out the shaft, but it worked).

How did it work out? Notice much difference? Cause any issues with the motor over time?

There are threads on the mod of HF dust collector with the Rikon impeller. It does increase suction but increases the load on the motor. Mine is doing okay and hasn’t killed the motor…. yet.
