I keep getting email offers from a major woodworking site/supplier (unnamed to protect the innocent) for a “FINE TOOLS 36” WOOD RULE”. It looks a lot like what I used to call a yardstick. Nice brass end caps and all, but for $39.95 I will pass. Anyone out there bought one of these?

Looks like the Wood Pecker Brand high priced rulers. I have a yard stick that’s been hanging on a hook for the last two years gathering dust. Got it free from a lumber yard promotion, for just walking in their door. The one your talking about, makes for a expensive straight edge.

I got that same email! I literally laughed out loud and promptly deleted it.

A while back, I grabbed a metal yardstick from Walmart for about $5. I can run a knife blade along it without shaving off parts of it. And, turned up on it’s side, it’s flexible so I can use it to make curves on pieces less than 3 feet long.

I got a chuckle out of that offer this AM when I saw it in my inbox. I wonder how many they sell to folks who just want to see if there is something more to it than a <$1 yardstick with a nice endcaps.

Happen to have a STEEL “yardstick” called a Luftkin Tinners’ Rule…..complete with all the info they used to make “tin cans”. Have a couple wood yardsticks…somewhere…

I don’t recall who said it, but my first thought when I saw the ad was “A fool and his money are soon parted.”

Hee hee. Yeah, Woodpeckers used to be something useful. For instance, I bought a couple really nice router table inserts from them. Now it appears they don’t even sell plain inserts (plates) anymore and just sell super over-priced useless gadgets. Kinda like Lee Valley. Although Lee Valley actually has some really good planes and other tools along with all the random gadgets

Got that email too. Looked at the, (gotta be 50-ish year old) one I have hanging on the wall. I believe my Dad got it for free at the hardware store. 3 Feet is still 3 feet.
