Topic tags/keywords: sealcoat semipro spray

Hello all. I have th Fuji semi-pro 2 and am using it for the first time. I need to put some seal coat (Zinsser) on something and was wondering if the needle it came with will Work. I have a 50/50 seal/denat al with some trans tint ready to go.

There’s one way to find out. Try it. My Fuji Q4 from many years ago came with spray gun with a 1.0mm needle and it handles shellac perfectly. My guess is yours is 1.0 or 1.3. Either way, I’m sure it’ll spray shellac just fine.

Thanks Rich. I’ll give it a shot in the morning. I’ll try it with the mix and then straight sealcoat and see which one gets it done better. I have the mix because I was planning on wiping it on. I’ve had the spray system for a couple of weeks now and a little fear has kept me from using it.

If you haven’t used it yet, I strongly recommend practicing with it for a while before you tackle spraying your project. Use some water for the spray medium and get some brown paper to spray against so you can actually see the pattern and wetness.

There are only a couple of settings on the gun that matter, one is the flow and the other is the spread of the fan. Your gun will either have a knob for fan spread or you’ll control it by turning the air cap ring on the front of the gun. The flow control is on the back of the gun. Turn it completely clockwise and then open it back a half turn at a time until you get the flow you want.

It’s easy once you get the hang of it. It’s just a matter of time and experience.

A 1.2 mm works my conversion HVLP.

Maybe something here to help.

Thanks for the link. I have a gravity and it came with a 1.3. Looks like it will be ok. I have a lot to learn that’s for sure.

The seal coat went through the 1.3 just fine. I have ordered the #2 which is a 1. I’d be interested to see if it makes a difference. The 1. will come in handy with some other finishes such as stain and water base as well. Thanks for the reply’s!!
