So for a solid wood tabletop you should use mechanical fasteners to attach to the apron so you can allow the wood to move. I have a veneered particle board piece I want to turn into a tabletop. Since particle board is not very strong and also doesn’t contract and expand much, I was thinking I could glue it to the solid wood aprons to add some strength? I know how easy it is to smash particular board haha.

Would glueing it to the apron to make it stronger be a bad idea for any reason?

In my opinion no. But it will make it harder to remove when you need to replace the top. Of course if it’s 1/4 thick PB I’d say do use it at all. Maybe more details will give other a chance at giving a better answer.

It’s 3/4 inch pb with a nice cherry burl veneer
