I’m working on a project plan that calls for a cut using a 5/8” straight router bit and 1 3/8” guide bearing to basically cut a 3/8” dado along a curve. I checked Rockler and Woodcraft for a guide bearing to put on my bit, but they don’t have them, and I haven’t had much luck finding anything online.

If anyone has any advice on where to find this I would appreciate it. Also, this will be my first time adding a guide bearing onto a router bit. If there’s anything special to know about how to secure it to the router bit shaft, please let me know.

I walked past a display of guide bearings, while shopping at Menard’s last week….Sold by CMT….might try them?

It sounds like your bit doesn’t have the bearing stud on the tip and if you are cutting a 3/8” (wide?) dado with a 5/8” bit, you probably are really cutting a rabbet?

You can easily buy bearings that fit over the bits shaft (1/2” or 1/4”). These have a colllar to hold them in place.

Single bearings can easily be found
Alternatively you can get a rabbet bit set that comes with a variety of tip mounted bearings.

I ordered from Router Bit World.

$1 shipping on all orders means that you can order little things cheaply.
