Topic tags/keywords: question lathe

I have the opportunity to purchase a Central Machinery 10×18 lathe on Craigslist for $75. The owner says it will need 2 new spindle bearings, OR a head. I’ve only turned once and would like to get into turning small projects while not breaking the bank. How much am I going to end up spending on repairs and does anyone have recommendations on where to buy these parts? I understand the Rockler Excelsior is practically the something, so I could maybe find parts on eBay. Thanks for the help.

Nope. $75 is a fair price for that lathe IF it’s ready to plug in and run. Needing to replace the spindle bearings makes that price way too steep. It is a great lathe, it was the first one I owned. Those lathes are pretty common and often available on CL for around that same price point without needing any repairs.
