Topic tags/keywords: motors Hello, I have a Nova Comet II lathe. A label on the motor says “DC Motor” but also “115v 60hz”. Doesn’t 60hz imply AC current? The either the variable speed controller or the motor is burnt out. Teknatool (the maker of the Nova Comet II) does not carry parts for the Comet II anymore. Any ideas on where to look for parts? |

he AC from the wall is being converted to DC for the motor by a controller that also provides with the variable speed functionality. what is the experience you are seeing when you turn the lathe on? the motor should have 2 wires running to it. can you check with a volt meter if it is getting the needed voltage? that would help you figure out if it’s the controller or the motor (same goes for the controller inputs) -- ㊍ When in doubt - There is no doubt - Go the safer route. |

Double check the controller box. Mine filled up with dust causing it to overheat and shut off. -- Rick M, http://thewoodknack.blogspot.com/ |
