Bought some old timbers in Central Indiana. Almost all are oak, but trying to decide what i have here? This was 8×8 before i milled it into table legs…

Almost looks like purple heart, but i don’t see how or why it would be. Any thoughts?

Looks like black walnut to me.

Id go buy more ;)

Air dried walnut tends to take a purple look.

So today in Central Indiana I cleaned out my gutters that were filled with a nice blend of the the equivalent of a few inches of leaf slushie topping 1 inch of leaf ice cubes, helped the wife set up and take down for the Harrison Craft show, and spent a portion of the day with my mother in law.

You got stuck with old timbers that turned out to be some beautiful walnut…..

Seriously very nice score.

Thanks, thought it was very purple for walnut, but i figured that is the only thing it could logically be. I have another one that is walnut as well. Unfortunately the other oak timbers were pretty infested with boring holes and i have tried to treat them a couple different ways but am still finding tiny piles of powder in a few spots. Wish it was all walnut, as the bugs don’t seem to feast on it at all and its much nicer!
